Banking System Liquidity Surplus Hits Record ₹10.3 Trillion
India’s banking system liquidity surplus surged to an all-time high of ₹10.3 trillion on 3 September 2026, driven largely by dollar-to-rupee conversions from the RBI’s special FCNR(B) swap window. The flood of cash pushed the interbank call rate down to 4.94%, below the RBI’s 5% policy floor, prompting the central bank to run VRRR auctions that drained ₹6.02 trillion from banks to bring rates back in line.
