Rape and punishment: On the life sentencing of Prajwal Revanna
Prajwal Revanna, a former MP and grandson of ex-PM Deve Gowda, was sentenced to life in prison for raping a domestic worker in 2021. This is just one of several cases against him. In 2024, leaked videos of his crimes surfaced, exposing serious privacy violations. Despite efforts to silence survivors and misuse of political power, a Special Investigation Team acted quickly, arrested him, and submitted charges. The court accepted video, DNA, and witness evidence. Revanna was convicted under multiple IPC and IT laws. This fast verdict gives hope to survivors and highlights the need for swift, sensitive action by the justice system to help victims come forward without fear

An unravelling: On the Malegaon acquittals
The 2008 Malegaon blast that killed six people was initially seen as an act by Hindutva extremists, with evidence including secret meeting recordings and confessions. At first, the ATS tried to investigate without religious bias, unlike the earlier wrongful arrests of Muslim youth. But later, with political changes, the approach seemed to weaken. The NIA took over and was accused of going soft. In the end, the court found the evidence unreliable — key witnesses changed their statements, and recordings were rejected due to legal flaws. Though Lt. Col. Purohit and Pragya Thakur were acquitted, the judgment showed that serious failures in investigation and prosecution allowed them to walk free. It shows that without strong legal systems, extremists, regardless of religion, may escape justice.

Why Jeffrey Epstein’s ghost is haunting Donald Trump today
The controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein is still troubling Donald Trump. Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, had ties to many powerful figures and was convicted of abusing underage girls. Before the 2024 election, Trump used the promise of revealing the “Epstein Files” to energise his supporters, claiming they exposed elites. But now that he’s in office, his team says no such files exist, and supporters are starting to doubt him. Trump, known for attacking the political elite and supporting conspiracy theories, is now being seen as one of them. His failure to explain the Epstein connection is damaging, as even his most loyal followers demand truth and accountability.

Malegaon verdict flags major shortcomings in investigation. NIA must appeal it
In two recent cases — the 2006 Mumbai train blasts and the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast — courts have acquitted all the accused due to serious investigation failures. These cases raise concerns about how justice is affected by political influence and poor procedures. In the Malegaon case, which involved a deadly bomb blast outside a mosque, the court found many errors, including missing evidence, unauthorised phone taps, and delays in the trial. Though the court acknowledged that there was strong suspicion, it ruled that suspicion alone is not enough to convict. The first investigation by Maharashtra’s ATS was flawed, and even when the NIA took over, it did not fix these mistakes. Political pressure made things worse. The NIA must now appeal and build a stronger case to ensure justice is served.
