Fragile Attractiveness: Latest FDI Data and India
India’s latest foreign direct investment data reveals its fragile appeal as an investment hub, with net FDI turning negative for the third straight month in October 2025 as outflows exceeded inflows following US President Donald Trump’s tariff hikes from 25% to 50% on India, reversing earlier gains of $10.7 billion in April-July—triple the prior year—to net withdrawals of $622 million in August, $1.7 billion in September, and $1.5 billion in October, dropping the cumulative to $6.2 billion. While gross inflows dipped and Indian firms increasingly invest abroad amid unsaturated domestic supply, government efforts like 2019 tax cuts, production incentives, and demand boosts via income and GST reductions—hailed as structural reforms—prove vulnerable to external shocks like US trade uncertainty, which even prompted foreign portfolio exits from equities per the Reserve Bank, underscoring that growth headlines falter without deeper, resilient changes

Doping Menace: Indian Sport and Dope Positive Cases
India tops the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list for the third year with 260 positive cases from 7,113 tests in 2024 at 3.6%, far above nations like France and Italy despite fewer tests than China, threatening its bids for 2029 World Police Games, 2030 Commonwealth Games, and 2036 Olympics as the National Anti-Doping Agency claims more testing explains highs but shows drops to 1.5% in 2025 via awareness and apps, amid athletes fleeing tests and staff suspensions. Government jobs and cash medals drive shortcuts with health risks, so despite the 2025 Amendment Bill, India must fund and independent-ise NADA fully under IOC pressure to fight this evolving menace rooted in the sports system.

New Year Resolutions for the Powerful
As the festive season of eating, drinking, and celebrating ends, ordinary people make simple promises like quitting smoking, losing weight, earning more, or spending time with family, but global leaders and the rich face bigger challenges: US President Donald Trump should act less dramatically to avoid shaking world trade and politics with tariffs, threats, and family business ties; Elon Musk must focus on tech innovation like better EVs instead of social commentary; UK and French leaders Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron need to connect with their people before claiming broader leadership; Putin and Xi should strengthen their alliance without distractions; and in India, influential figures giving constant unsolicited advice on work, family size, and isolation should simply relax

After Year of Successes, ISRO Set for Big Leaps
The Indian Space Research Organisation ended 2025 strongly with the LVM3-M6 mission launching a record 6,100-kg commercial satellite, Bluebird Block-2, into low-earth orbit, building on its expertise in deploying 434 foreign satellites from 34 countries while showcasing new heavy-payload capabilities. Earlier achievements included the SpaDeX docking demonstration vital for space stations and lunar missions, the pioneering India-US NISAR satellite with dual radars for ultra-detailed Earth imaging, and LVM3-M5 placing a 4,400-kg satellite in geosynchronous orbit. These incremental advances mark ISRO’s rise as a global leader, with at least six more launches planned by March—including the first uncrewed Gaganyaan flight with a humanoid robot—potentially its busiest quarter ever.
