IBPS PO Recruitment 2027-28

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has opened the gates for IBPS PO Recruitment 2027-28, releasing the detailed notification for CRP PO/MT-XVI on 1 July 2026. If you are a graduate eyeing a Probationary Officer or Management Trainee post in a public sector bank, this is the exam that gets you there. Here’s a clause-by-clause breakdown of what the notification actually says.
What Is CRP PO/MT-XVI
CRP PO/MT-XVI is IBPS’s Common Recruitment Process for hiring Probationary Officers and Management Trainees across eleven participating public sector banks. The process runs in two tiers: an Online Preliminary exam followed by an Online Main exam. Candidates who clear both stages move on to a Personality Test and a Common Interview, coordinated by a Nodal Bank in each state or region. Those who make the final cut get provisionally allotted to one of the participating banks based on merit-cum-preference.
It’s worth noting that IBPS only conducts the exam and the interview process. The actual decision to employ a candidate rests entirely with the bank to which they are allotted, and a bank can reject a provisionally allotted candidate at its own discretion.
Participating Banks and Vacancies
Eleven public sector banks have signed up for this cycle: Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank, and Union Bank of India.
The notification lists an indicative total of 6,715 vacancies for the year 2027-28, broken down as follows:
| Category | Vacancies |
| SC | 1,009 |
| ST | 502 |
| OBC | 1,816 |
| EWS | 669 |
| UR (Unreserved) | 2,719 |
| Total | 6,715 |
Of these, 73 vacancies are earmarked for Hearing Impaired candidates, 70 for Orthopedically Challenged candidates, 67 for Visually Impaired candidates, and 77 for candidates with Intellectual Disability. Indian Bank, UCO Bank, and Union Bank of India have not reported their vacancy figures yet (shown as NR in the notification), so the final count could shift. IBPS is clear that these numbers are indicative and anticipated, and the actual provisional allotment will depend on real vacancies reported by each bank closer to the time.

Here’s the tentative schedule laid out in the notification:

All of these dates are tentative, so it’s worth checking the official IBPS website (www.ibps.in) regularly for updates rather than locking these into your calendar as final.
Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years old as on 1 July 2026. That means you need to be born on or after 2 July 1996 and on or before 1 July 2006.
Age relaxation is available for certain categories:
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates: 3 years
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: 10 years
- Ex-servicemen with at least 5 years of military service: 5 years
The relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates can be combined with only one other applicable category, not stacked across all of them.
Educational Qualification
You need a degree in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India, and the final result must have been declared on or before 21 July 2026. If your university uses a CGPA or OGPA system, you’ll need to convert it to a percentage using your institution’s own conversion formula and be ready to prove that formula at the interview stage.
Nationality
You must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who settled in India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of settling permanently in India (subject to an eligibility certificate from the Government of India).
Application Fees
The fee structure, payable online between 1 July and 21 July 2026, is:
- Rs. 175 (inclusive of GST) for SC/ST/PwBD candidates
- Rs. 850 (inclusive of GST) for all other candidates
Bank transaction charges on top of this are the candidate’s responsibility. If you need to correct your application later, the Edit Window fee is a separate Rs. 200, and this correction fee is non-refundable regardless of category.
Exam Pattern
The selection process runs through two objective exams and a descriptive paper.
Preliminary Exam (100 marks, 60 minutes total)
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 35 | 30 | 20 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 40 | 20 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 60 minutes |
Main Exam (200 marks + 25-mark descriptive paper)
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
| Reasoning | 40 | 60 | 45 minutes |
| General/Economy/Banking Awareness | 50 | 60 | 35 minutes |
| English Language | 40 | 20 | 35 minutes |
| Data Analysis & Interpretation | 40 | 60 | 45 minutes |
| Descriptive Paper (Essay & Comprehension) | 2 | 25 | 30 minutes |
| Total | 172 | 225 | 190 minutes |
Each wrong answer in the objective sections costs you a quarter of that question’s marks as penalty. Leaving a question blank costs nothing.
Selection Process After the Main Exam
Candidates who clear the Main exam are called for a Personality Test, which is self-report and non-qualifying, but attending it is compulsory if you want to sit for the interview. The interview itself carries 100 marks, with a minimum qualifying score of 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates). The final merit list is built on a weightage of 80% for the Main exam score and 20% for the interview score.
A reserve list of roughly 20% of vacancies in each category may also be maintained, though this doesn’t guarantee eventual allotment.
Pay Scale
Selected candidates will draw a Basic pay of Rs. 48,480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920, along with allowances and perquisites as per the rules of whichever participating bank they’re allotted to.
How to Apply
Applications can only be submitted online through www.ibps.in – no other mode is accepted. Before you start, keep scanned copies ready of your photograph, signature, left thumb impression, a handwritten declaration, and your SSC/SSLC/10th standard certificate, all as per the size and format specifications in the notification.
Once registered, you’ll get a provisional registration number and password by email and SMS, which you can use to save and resume your application. Note that fields like Name, Email ID, Mobile Number, State/UT, Post, and Nationality cannot be edited once submitted, so it pays to double-check these before hitting the final submit button.
A Few Things Worth Remembering
This is an All India cadre role, so a provisionally allotted candidate can be posted anywhere in India, or even outside India, at the bank’s discretion. The validity of CRP PO/MT-XVI expires automatically one year after the date of provisional allotment, or when a fresh allotment is made, whichever comes first. And any dispute arising from this recruitment process falls under the jurisdiction of courts in Mumbai.
If you’re planning to apply, the sensible move is to start gathering your documents now rather than waiting until the last week of the registration window. IBPS has stated plainly that it won’t take responsibility for applications that fail to go through due to last-minute server load, so give yourself a buffer.
